About Greg and Taryn
Taryn
Taryn is a brand-new lawyer after spending far too many years in school, on both coasts no less. She grew up in New Westminster, BC with parents Wanda and Allan and younger sisters Laurel and Heather. While indoors, Taryn enjoys books of nearly every kind, cheesy '90s nighttime soap operas, and sushi. While outdoors, Taryn enjoys hiking, backcountry camping and yelling at bears. While both indoors and outdoors Taryn enjoys being a know-it-all, and also being right.
Greg
Although Greg's passport says he was born in Surrey, he'd like to think his formative years were spent in the oh-so-different (sure...) North Delta. Greg is an avid outdoorsman, and frequently attempts to involve his father, Bill, and brother, Nick, in those pursuits. Despite the many mishaps (summertime hikes over slippery snowfields, or head first falls of bridges into creeks), his family is still around and his mother, Ruth, hasn't disowned him. Like Taryn, Greg also enjoys being a know-it-all, which presents some interesting evenings at their household. He'll gladly leave the bear yelling to her, however.
How they met
Greg and Taryn met on a trip to Victoria in 2003 with friends Jessica and Tudor to visit mutual friend Emily for her birthday. Greg closed the trunk of a station-wagon on Taryn's head and for some reason she's been crazy about him ever since.
About the Wedding Party
Jessica, Brideswoman
Jessica is an educator-extraordinaire - she taught English to the English for two years and is fluent en francaise. Jessica first met Taryn when they were the only two semi-competent flautists in their grade 8 band class. They became good friends while attending UBC and even survived some 'unusual' residence roommates together. Jessica was instrumental in setting up Greg and Taryn, mostly by strategically leaving them alone together, but also by chaperoning some early 'non-date' dates. Thanks Jess!
Laurel, Brideswoman
Laurel is a student of Geography at SFU and a master of many sports, including soccer, rowing, and most recently rugby. She recently returned from an exchange to Flinders Univeristy in Adelaide, Australia where everyone called her a "veggo" (Aussie for vegetarian) and she lived in a shared house known as "Medical Manor". Laurel met Taryn soon after she came out of the womb since she is Taryn's younger sister.
Emily, Brideswoman
Emily retired from civil service with the federal government at age 26 and is now embarking upon a second career as a speech language pathologist. Unfortunately, this requires that she live in Edmonton. Taryn and Emily first met as "wee lassies" on the same soccer team, but strangely did not become close friends until Emily moved away to Victoria for university. We suppose absence makes the heart grow fonder? Emily and Taryn are known for making each other laugh hysterically until they both cry.
Heather, Brideswoman
Heather is the youngest of the Eyton sisters and also answers to the nickname "Budgie". She is the founder of the UVic Scoot Club, whose mandate is to bring fun to all through the use of collapsible push scooters on steep hills. Heather recently spent a year travelling around Australia and New Zealand, including a stint as the receptionist at a place called Kangaroo Island, but has now returned to UVic to complete her History degree.
Nick, Best man
Despite being younger, Nick has managed to one-up his elder brother in many things. He's been known as the better looking one, the stronger one, and has also managed to get married and buy a house all while Greg was goofing off in the Maritimes. Nick, like Greg, shares a love for road trips and Disneyland, and they've spent more than a few nights together sleeping in the car at highway rest stops. His laugh is contagious, and it will probably beat out the PA system as the loudest thing you'll hear at our reception!
James, Groomsman
James and Greg have been friends since they were five-year-olds pretending they could fly at their Beavers meetings. (James was Super-Beaver and Greg was Wonder-Beaver, or was it the other way around?) James and Greg share a love of computer programming, beards, and drinking port. They also went on exchange together to the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England where they drank far too much beer, watched many bad movies, and lived in a dormitory modelled after a Swedish women's prison. However, they are by no means identical: James believes that pickles are cucumbers soaked in evil, while Greg finds them a tasty treat.
Tudor, Groomsman
Tudor, despite his humble beginnings in a shack on the Danube, made his way to Canada and managed to find himself on a fateful hike to Cape Scott, where his mysterious ways instantly intrigued Greg and a fast friendship was formed. It goes without saying that he is, of course, a computer geek, however few have been able to accomplish this with such style. He is a fan of a good coffee, a great scotch, and an even better book. He can entrance you with his guitar, however he can make your ears bleed with his violin.
Matt, Groomsman
Matt and Greg met each other in their high school Electronics class, where Greg wasn't fooled by Matt's excellent sense of dress and instead could see the latent hacker inside. Ever since, they've managed to engage in many deep philosophical discussions, simultaneously curing our dependence on oil and solving world hunger. In these noble pursuits, Matt has toured the world, gaining degrees and teaching in Japan, England and now his new homeland-to-be, Australia. Matt is the cleverest world traveller there is, and can craft itineraries that make Travelocity's computers melt down. We're lucky to have him at our wedding, although I'm sure he'd much prefer if it were in Fiji or McMurdo Station, Antarctica.
About the Support Crew
Daphne, Officiant
Daphne is one of our dear friends from our time in Halifax. She was not afraid to appear before the whole law school doing a skit with a mop on her head, so we thought she would have no problem officiating our wedding.
Chris, MC
Chris is Taryn's loud and outspoken uncle. He has been threatening to embarrass her by being the Master of Ceremonies at her wedding since she was a shy youngster, and incredibly, she's decided to call his bluff.
Clayton, Musician
Clayton is Taryn's musically accomplished cousin and will be providing some awesome acoustic guitar accompaniment for the ceremony.
Janet, Wedding Coordinator
Janet is Taryn's aunt and the most organized person she knows. Who better to keep things running smoothly?
Allan and Wanda & Bill and Ruth
Our wedding wouldn't be possible without the love and support of our parents through the years. Thanks so much!
Baroness Meowsers von Flopperson a.k.a. Audrey is an integral member of our little family. However, since she doesn't like crowds or loud noises, she sends her regrets at being unable to attend our wedding. She will be spending a peaceful evening at home.
